Pet Tigers

Tigers are fascinating creatures that are admired by many; so much so, in fact, that some people have pet tigers. It should never be forgotten, however, that the wild always remains with the tiger.
Tigers are the most beloved of the large cats. It is easy to fall in love with a small, five pound bundle of furry energy that simply resembles a large housecat, especially if given the opportunity to bottle feed one. Pet tigers have been adopted by numerous people; some with great success, and many with sad results. There are, unfortunately, more unhappy ends to tiger ownership than there are satisfactory ones, leading to an overabundance of pet tigers ending up in exotic pet sanctuaries.
Pet tigers, while adorable as kittens, will undoubtedly grow to be just as nature intended: wild cats. It is important for anyone who is considering a venture into the world of exotic pets to fully realize that fact. There is no amount of love that will keep nature from taking its course eventually. That is not to say that a tiger will not love a human in return, for the fact that tigers are capable of love has been proven time and time again. It is, however, love with conditions.
Another factor that needs to be considered about pet tigers is the expense that will be involved with owning one. Providing an appropriate home for the tiger will be an expense that will probably be repeated at least a couple of times through the tiger’s stages of growing to accommodate its also growing needs. Veterinarian bills to ensure the continued and maintained health of the cat will also be needed. Food will no doubt be a large expense of pet tigers, considering that a tiger must have measured amounts of fresh meat daily.
The first steps for the serious owner of pet tigers to take are applying for the necessary permits and abiding by the local laws and legislations present in your area. Consider volunteering at a sanctuary of large cats before making the commitment to ensure you are fully aware of all that is required in caring for the tiger.
Next, look closely at your own life to see if you are truly able to devote time for pet tigers. Tigers in captivity can live up to 20 years and possibly more, and you will be their full-time, round the clock caregiver. Are you prepared to give up vacations, and to provide the labor required in keeping the pet tiger’s area clean and sanitary?
For some, owning pet tigers can be a fulfilling experience. These people have done their research and committed themselves to the well-being of their adopted cats. It is truly a lifetime commitment that includes hard work, devotion and some heartbreak along the way; something to consider before adopting pet tigers.
